Who is divya palat
How far can you be comfortable with pain? Actor-director Divya Palat unwittingly found herself on that unenviable quest five years ago, when she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis MS.
It happened to be at the peak of her career. Where does one go from there? Born into the royal family of Kochi, Divya started acting at the age of three, and did numerous commercials, plays and films before heading to Stanford on a full scholarship to do a double major in mathematics and drama. At 21, Divya set up her own production house, Balancing Act Films, creating commercials, music videos and feature films.
When she was 24, she married actor-entrepreneur Aditya Hitkari. A few years ago, he decided to join her in her business. The relationship has only grown stronger. Divya was first hospitalized in with plaque deposits in her brain.
Later, in , while doing an MRI to diagnose a temporary loss of vision, the doctors realised she had a tumour. The tumour protected me!
Defiant in the face of debilitating disease, Divya launched The Balancing Act Trust, which supports numerous NGO raising funds through theatre and film at an inclusive cultural festival called YouTheatre. She continues to work at a frenetic pace, shooting up to four brand videos featuring Bollywood stars every week, and has learnt to live with painful attacks, which can last from 30 seconds to three weeks. Divya has learnt a thing or two about living with MS.
Yoga gurus tell you to find comfort in discomfort if you want to progress in your practice. My major motivation charger is my husband Aditya. He was just 25, an age when people shy away from making big decisions and there he was asking me to marry him. He is the one who never allowed me to go all dejected and hopeless.
He told me that my life will only stop if I stop trying to live it. Well, as an answer to that question, you should know that I was hospitalized last night as I was unable to breathe.
Yet I am at work today, I reached sharp at My schedule for tomorrow is set as well, I will be shooting with Kajol for an advertisement. So, yeah, I will not let my condition control my life. I am back at work, screaming at everyone to work on schedule as you know how production works- it is all about last-minute deadlines.
In this disease, if you have the determination to not quit your work, your life, then nothing can stop you. Life should never stop. She recently produced and directed the hit Darshan Raval song, Do Din, which has crossed 26 million views. She started acting at the age of three, doing numerous commercials, plays, and films before she went to Stanford University, on full scholarship, double majoring in Mathematics and Drama.
When I dialed your number, I was ready to talk to a writer and director, but here I am talking to a superwoman. So, we learned that you are working on your first Hindi film script. For now, I am writing a book. It is based on the time before we attained Independence. Writing it is pretty exciting for me as it is something that I always had in my mind.
So when the book will be launched, the film will be announced as well but we will be starting production and shooting by next year. One of the doctors announced that she would never be able to move again. I had always thought that I would work now, explore life later. But now it seemed like I had an expiry date. With Aditya by her side, Divya decided to take up things she'd always wanted to do.
With the doctor permitting her to work after her second MRI, Divya started work full-fledged on Balancing Act Productions, the production company she had started with Aditya a few years ago. The work allowed me to direct, act and produce, so that every minute would be fruitfully used.
But she continues to fight. I try and make sure I look great and feel great. That makes me feel less sick. I want to spend time with the people I like. I have learnt to take risks; I would have never done that before.
