So you are really on holiday as soon as you arrive. The resort is 10 min from town and large selection of food places and shopping locations. The pool is now very large, and the water activities are plenty. Enjoy the best Sunset in Town radically on the sea and with the islands. My only critic is that the Sunset is supposed to be a very relaxed moment, but the music is too loud in the sunset bar.

The hotel room was lovely, very clean and spacious. The hotel was at full capacity to be aware that the breakfast room is pretty full around am. The Chi spa was pricey but absolutely amazing loved it! Had a lovely time at the Shangri-La Tanjung Aru. We were left wanting for nothing - everything was taken care of, from amazing amenities within the resort multiple pools, bars, restaurants to the provisions in the room tea, coffee, ice, toothbrushes, slippers.

The room itself was very large and the bathroom had a bath with a separate shower and a balcony with views of the ocean. We opted for an upgrade to the Kinabalu Club, and got a room on a higher floor and access to the Club, which included breakfast away from the masses, complimentary happy hour and drinks and snacks throughout the day.

The main pool was amazing - an infinity pool overlooking the South China sea. There were also separate pools for children, including 3 water slides. The staff were very helpful and friendly. As a kid friendly resort, this was to be expected, but it would have been great to have kid-free zones available e.

Overall though, a wonderful, comfortable stay. This one is closer to town and is really lovely. A taxi to town takes minutes and costs 20 Malaysian Ringit. The pool is large and has varied depth up to 1. The beach has a little coral - so if you have sensitive feet swim in sandals or water shoes. The breakfast is wonderful - covers all types of food, and as is very common in Malaysia due to Muslim customs - the bacon is beef bacon.

If you have children - the water play area is fantastic. This hotel is good for all ages and I would highly recommend it. Everything seems to be perfect, the hotel staff, the amenities, the food and the beach! Only con is that construction is still ongoing for some parts of the hotel including the swimming pool , oh well I guess every hotel needs a good renovation in order to better satisfy it's clients. There is a souvenir shop which sells a wide variety of items at an affordable price.

We spent the rest of the afternoon at the beach as well, swimming, taking pictures and of course waited for the sunset. After sundown, we changed clothes and had our buffet dinner at their restaurant. They serve excellent food although the price is a little bit high, it still is worth it. The following day, we had our free buffet breakfast and amazingly they served quality food consistently. We checked-out at around pm and the hotel staff even helped us find a taxi. Great hotel with great people!

The hotel is amazing - with its private beach, beautiful swimming pools, top-notch customer service and hospitality, amazing breakfasts, etc. I was impressed by their 5-star level of service.

I came here as a solo traveler, but I saw a lot of families enjoying this place, too. I tried to make the most of my time here, and I would gladly stay here again. Great teacher. It astounds me that at the price for staying here they don't provide this! Cheaper hotels give this automatically. Why not here? Still, overall I would happily stay here. This hotel far exceed my expectations. I have been to many luxury hotels and the Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru is one of the best The hotel is stunning, the grounds are beautiful and the pool area is so relaxing.

The breakfast buffet is great - a little chaotic with kids running about, but it's the norm in these hotels. We stayed in a sea view room at Kinabalu Wing. Interior looks fresh and modern.

Staffs always clean the room perfectly. Swimmimg pool is big, has mini waterfall, slides and big water bucket Breakfast has so many breads options Restaurant staffs are very helpful and friendly.

It has a private beach, where my children did swimming and kayaking There is also pingpong game And also marina with private jetty. We went for snorkelling in Manukan Island, and then parasailing and banana boat.

All were arranged at the Star Marina office at the hotel. Insyaa Allah, we will come back Great pleasure to stay ar Shangri-la's Tanjung Aru. Really love the view there. Enjoy the food and the hospitality of the hotel staff. Great internet connection even on the beach.

Two thumbs for Shangri-la's Tanjung aru. I will certainly return and stay here again. My family really enjoys our time there, foods are great, facility is nice, staffs are really friendly and the views are amazing.

Greeted warmly upon our arrival. Variety choices of foods served during breakfast buffet. We also went for a day trip to Manukan Island via Star Marina.

Our belongings was well taken care of while we are enjoying our day at the island. Dear Shamirol, Thank you so much for the wonderful review of the resort! Until we meet again, safe travels always.

We were so pleased to arrive at a good hotel after a weekend of having climbed Mount Kinabalu. An amazing experience in itself however staying at the Tanjung Aru after the climb also made our break! Most of all we needed a good hot shower and the hotel did not disappoint. The room was lovely and overlooked mountains and sea. We had been looking forward to a celebratory drink with dinner at the coco bar think that was the name however we didn't receive the best of service throughout the evening however this was the only thing to blight our stay.

All in all we had a wonderful one night break and would have been very happy to stay longer; take the opportunity to indulge in the dinner buffet would definately do that next time!

We enjoyed our second stay at the Shangri-La Tanjung Aru and particularly the lovely spa which is highly recommended.

In addition, nearby Mt Kinabalu is a great place for jungle tours. The city has flights to major scenic spots in Sabah. Rama District in the south is the old town, with a variety of shops, restaurants and hotels. There is also a bazaar in Gaya Street every Sunday. The tourist information center of Sabah is also located here. The city hall, courthouse and state library are in front of the Central Bus Station. There is also a food court and a commercial district in this area.

Don't forget to sample the various dishes here and buy local specialties. Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, located km outside Kota Kinabalu, is made up of five island groups and covers an area of 4, hectares, of which two-thirds are ocean. Here you can see beautiful coral, have a picnic party on the island, and go sailing or swimming.

The night market stalls here are very good. There are many affordable hotels in Kota Kinabalu and the prices are much lower than those in Kuala Lumpur. There are also large shopping malls here, but it is recommended that you go to some roadside shops to buy local specialties.

The more expensive products are shipped from west Malaysia and prices are even higher than in Kuala Lumpur. However, peppers, sarongs, handmade masks and shell products are less than half the price they are in Kuala Lumpur.

The city of Kota Kinabalu is not very large. Generally speaking, the best way to get around is by taxi or walking. The buses have no air conditioning, so they are not recommended.

Would prefer closer to town but also want nice beach keen to do diving etc. I have stayed at 6 Shangri-La hotels, including the TA and Rasa Ria and they have all been equally as good from a quality, service and facility point of view.

Obviously, they do not all look the same and the biggest difference are the type of restaurants at each one. The beach at TA is small and man made but with stunning views of the islands. The beach at the Rasa Ria is very wide and massively long, but with only a view of the sea.

The grounds at both hotels are very attractive and you are able to have a lounger pretty much anywhere you like, so I think sitting on a beach with such a choice of tropical surroundings is slightly overated anyway. However, from the TA, you can take a short boat ride to the islands, where some of the best beaches and snorkling in the locality are. For the Rasa Ria sanctuary, they run a shuttle bus and you can enjoy a full day within the hotel grounds as well, just for a change.

It really comes down to personal choice;- central location for trips, town and a huge choice of eating or quieter location with nature walks and Orang sanctuary nearby. Just back from TA , stayed in an amazing suite , club floor ,overlooking the islands - but boy was it expensive for room, food and drinks.

Still it was Christmas so we splurged and had a great holiday there. Visited RR to see the Orangutan sanctuary and yes there is a large beach , but the hotel looks down market from TA , as the room prices would suggest , and it is so far out if you want to go to islands or town it's a 40 min bus trip.
